Nigerian students and youths in the United Kingdom joins protest against the Fuel Subsidy removal, to protests at the Nigeria House in London on Friday 6th January.
Responding to the ongoing protests across Nigeria about the dissatisfaction of Nigerians on Goodluck Ebele Jonathan led federal government decision to remove the fuel subsidy in Nigeria. Nigerian students and youth as well other professionals in the United Kingdom has decided show their solidarity with their country people and will be staging a sit in peaceful protest at the Nigeria House (9, Northumberland Street, London) on Friday 6th January 2012 by 12:30pm through 15:30pm
The peaceful protest is being coordinated by Students Association of Nigerian in Diaspora (SAND-UK) and Nigeria Youth League UK. And more information can be found on the protest event page on face book here.
Reacting to the reason for staging the protest, The President of SAND-UK, Olalekan Oshunkoya said “The GEJ led federal government is not a sensitive government at all, fuel subsidy is the only life-line that the Nigeria people has, it is the only ‘welfare’ package that connects the Nigeria people to the government, removing that last support base is unacceptable, cruel and devastating to Nigerians who gave the leadership the mandate to serve them, Goodluck has betrayed the Nigerian people”
The London Metropolitan Police have been informed and approval has been given for this protest to go ahead. Protesters will start gathering at 12:30pm on Friday.
